Truffle Brownies

August 29, 2011

In my previous post I mentioned that I baked two desserts for a recent get-together.  Unfortunately, with all the craziness that has surrounded my life lately (mostly good stuff), I failed to note that my second recipe would require more time than I had set aside for it.  My husband falling ill before our trip also did not help with time management.  Ultimately, I showed up at my friends’ home with one baked good and thankfully, it was a hit.

Just in case you are contemplating expanding your brownie repertoire, I would like to suggest one more recipe. I’m certain that like me, you already have your go-to recipe (mine is here and I also have another here with a healthier twist).  But what kind of food blogger would I be if I rested on my laurels?  I came across a brownie recipe topped with a rich ganache and with the claim that they would be “over the top, perfectly moist and fudgy”.  I had to see for myself if all these claims were true.

Score for Bon Appetit.  And to think that my July 201o issue has sat ignored for over a year with this wonderful recipe in its pages.  These brownies lived up to all the claims.  In fact, they received a thumbs up from my husband before I even had a chance to add the ganache layer.  Remember, the get-together?  My husband stayed home that evening and despite my saying that the brownies were unfinished, I arrived home with missing corner of the cake.  I had to fill the gaping hole with balled up aluminum foil and reinforcements on the edges to be able to add the ganache.  Consequently, the top chocolate layer is thicker than intended but I’m not complaining.  These brownies were indeed moist, fudgy and over the top.

By the way, my apologies for the hurried post.  See the picture below? That is where I am right now.  Can’t blame a girl for her priorities, right? Will edit post later!

Truffle Brownies

Recipe here from Bon Appetit July 2010

* Note:  I used an 8×8 inch baking pan instead of the 9×9 recommended.

This has to be the most enticing brownies I have seen in a long while. It’s just calling my name, and it almost makes me feel just fine for not being at the beach right now. Hope you are having a wonderful time!

The brownies look delicious, but could you tell me where the gorgeous little milk bottle came from in your picture?

    • August 31, 2011 10:02 AM

Fiona, thank you! I recycled this bottle from heavy cream I bought at Whole Foods. I believe it’s Clover-Stornetta but I will have to double-check when I return home. Will get back to you!

Fiona, I apologize for my (very) delayed reply. The milk bottle is from Straus Creamery–I believe it’s available at Whole Foods. 🙂
